Leveraging your International Business Development Program (IBDP)?
People around the world are wondering how to create more companies that fill a need in the current economy. These new companies have to find new business opportunities, create new market spaces and develop innovation based product and services that will be marketed globally. From any place in the world, you may ask yourself, how these new companies can be created using the knowledge available in the local environment, in the innovations hubs of the world, access the knowledge thru Internet, meeting with people that already has gone for the full process of sparking and idea, transform into a product, find customer and build a successfully company.
The knowledge to create the great dreamed company could be at your fingertips, the challenge is how you can get it now, fast, without waste and affordable. This is the value proposition that you want to see in a Business Development program in your local incubator. The big problem can be that it is not available around the corner and you like to do it right at the first time. People from around the world has been looking how to bring these capabilities that are very much described as the way of building companies in the Silicon Valley, the magic place where entrepreneurs are able to thing big, develop a project and find the right resources to execute, from human resources to financials to market knowledge.
This is the reason why so many governments has open an office in the Silicon Valley to learn the way to build great companies, then the challenge is to take back that knowledge to spread in their own country.
The process to go to a new location, land into the new place, meet the right partners, develop relationships to suppliers, customers and services providers is lengthy, expensive and risky. That’s why you ask if is any way to reduce the time, make it cheaper and reduces the risk?
Visiting Silicon Valley, you are able to find that more than 50 countries has some way of local representation, from a share space in an incubator to a full fledge office that are able to support tens of companies. These organizations usually learn how to develop business talking to local organizations, hiring consultants and doing a lot of try and error activities. You may search in the Internet for
Distance is not an issue if you have the right bridge
Reading the book Rainforest from Victor H Victor W. Hwang and Greg Horowitt about the Secrets in how to Build the next Silicon Valley, in the second chapter has a surprising finding about a search company started in Kansas City by Gauch couple. This company was able to develop and create a great search product before Yahoo and Google existed. They had a hard time to take off this company. The authors refers it as the issue of been in the wrong location with limited access to business resources, venture capital and a full ecosystem to develop the company like happen to Yahoo and Google in later years.
Thinking about the subject, how we can image that companies that are created in remote places in the world can be leverage their capabilities and take advantage of the missing parts that are needed to create successfully companies? If companies in the USA face the problem to getting the right resources to build into great company, I do not think that a company located in the middle of nowhere in Mexico can be successfully.
Working the idea to create another Silicon Valley, I always been thinking it is almost impossible even to do it again in the Silicon Valley. With today communications, the spread out of Social Media tools and the real time connections that we build all the time. I thing that today it is feasible to build great bridges among the elements of talent, ideas and capital. They need to have a trust component to link each ingredient. This connection can be carried out by a common point of contact that has the knowledge and skill to hook together the people in need with the people able to be a great provider. These profiles of people are the key element to build great networks and an invaluable resource to have in your portfolio.
Had you ever wonder how to meet them or how to be one of them? They are like beauty, you can see it, you can describe it and you can identify it, but it is very hard to describe. I wander how I can meet more of these people and how I can be one of them. This people are the bridges that help us to connect ingredients to fulfill our needs, and they could be located anywhere
The Global Business Fundation of Silicon Valley
Background
In today’s economy, the changes in information access, knowledge flows and potential capital flows means changes in the way wealth is produced. “The Big Shift”, as defined by the Deloitte Center for the Edge initiative describes new ways of doing business, creating knowledge and building networks to support our daily life. In this new economy, raw knowledge is a commodity that is no longer trapped inside corporations. Tapping that raw knowledge and entrepreneurial expertise is a hallmark of Silicon Valley success. There is a growing trend of people, companies and government entities from the entire world coming to the Silicon Valley to learn how to develop entrepreneurship skills, launch products, develop research, build innovation capabilities and find resources and capital. These three assets can be leveraged to reach broader networks, leverage their resources in different places and build “knowledge circulation” among people located everywhere, to do innovation everywhere, and create business opportunities everywhere.
In this environment, a newly created Global Business Foundation of Silicon Valley, is seeking to maximize the access to this pool of talent, knowledge and resources by building an extended network of trusted members able to share ideas, create new markets, develop new products and tap the growing need of creating high value jobs in the Silicon Valley and sharing their skills to develop opportunities and new markets elsewhere.
Global Business Foundation of Silicon Valley (GBF)
Organizations around the world, from startups to large organizations, are seeking how to get access to the available knowledge in Silicon Valley related to creating new ventures discovering new markets and developing new global businesses. The goal is to access the untapped and raw knowledge and expertise from hundreds of people that had been part of the creation of large companies like HP, Fairchild, Intel, Yahoo, Symantec, Google and more.
GBF brings access to this world of people by helping you to be part of the local network participating in our events, interactive website, immersion activities and sharing experiences while you visit the Valley or maintain remote contact to learn from the experts how to develop new ideas, drive innovation and create alliances to launch new products or services from anywhere to anywhere.
In order to eliminate the duplication of each company or country agency having to start from scratch when coming to learn in the Silicon Valley, GBF opens the opportunity to share experiences among participants and experts from all around the world. Thus, economic opportunity will occur locally and in each city or country that visits Silicon Valley. As Michael Mandelbaum described in his recent keynote speech at the at the State of the Valley Summit in San Jose, California , this is the ”Golden Age of the Entrepreneur”, and GBF can facilitate the gathering of experts to share raw knowledge and proven processes to create high value jobs here in the Valley that can be leveraged anywhere.
Let’s build an Innovation Accelerator here in the most innovative place in the world. You can access it, leverage it, expand it and guide it. It’s your time to be an active participant. The benefits will be tangible to yourself, your organization, your country and the entire entrepreneur ecosystem abroad.
Sharing experiences: Dissidents create value to improve countries.
Silicon Valley is a great place where people share ideas and point of view among everything, one of the best examples are meetups like this http://www.meetup.com/Latino-Startup-Alliance/events/50691242/ where you are able to talk with the people that is making changes. Today Vivek Wadhwa, received a reward that is unique and reported it in the Washinghton Post in the article America, keep rewarding your dissidents
Learning from this experience, where the openess creates challenges that with the right addressing create a great value.
The Big Shift moving to the Power of Pull
Build “knowledge circulation” among people located everywhere, to do innovation everywhere, and create business opportunities everywhere.
A great description of how our economy is shifting from an industrial one to a knowledge based one can be found in "The Big Shift" project that has evolved in several directions from an annual index publication to the book "The Power of Pull" wrote by John Hagel III, John Seely Brown, Lang Davison. A overall concept of this idea is available to read in the HBR blog
